Vietnam approves commercial use of first African swine fever vaccines

HANOI (Reuters) – According to the government, Vietnam has approved the domestic commercial use of two locally produced vaccinations against African swine fever, making them the first commercial vaccines against the fatal disease in the entire world.

The vaccines include NAVET-ASFVAC, which was created in collaboration with researchers from the United States, and AVAC ASF LIVE, which was created by AVAC Vietnam JSC, according to a statement from the government.

The vaccines’ approval may open the door to potential exports, which would be a significant advance in the fight against the devastating animal disease that periodically destroys pig farms all over the world.

According to a government announcement, the enterprises have been instructed by the ministry of agriculture to develop production plans for both domestic and international sales.

According to the government, tests on hog herds in 40 provinces using more than 650,000 doses of the vaccines showed a 95% efficacy rate.

The vaccines are acceptable for usage and distribution across the country, according to the ministry’s statement.

Despite the fact that the United States has so far been immune to the virus, Thomas Vilsack, the secretary of agriculture for the United States, stated last month that there was likely to be interest in preventive purchases in the country.
